Review: Doritos Locos Taco Is Not So Loco After All

More cheese is always a plus in my book. I counted down the days until the Locos Taco arrived. I imagined an explosion of flavors, a breathtaking combination of cheese flavored and beef flavored products; a truly “loco” experience.
But when I finally held the glorious Doritos Locos Taco in my hand and took the first bite, all I could do was release an apathetic sigh.
I thought, that's it? Maybe I had set my expectations too high, or maybe my palette just isn’t sophisticated enough to detect the delicate yet complex flavor artistry, but I was disappointed. Yes, the shell tasted like Doritos, neon cheese dust included, but it didn’t quite have the kick I was expecting.
Plus, the shell kept crumbling despite the special cardboard holder. A couple packets of hot sauce amped up the flavor but still I had that cheated feeling you get when you open a big bag of chips and realize they only filled it halfway. It just wasn’t enough. Maybe if there was more cheese dust? Or even a special sauce?
I’m no connoisseur and I don’t know what the solution is, but the Doritos Locos Taco is definitely missing something. Hopefully the Cool Ranch flavor, which is coming soon, will show some improvements. Nice try, Taco Bell, but I’ll stick with the Crunchwrap Supreme.
