Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley endorsed Rick Santorum Tuesday according to CNN.  The endorsement comes as voters take to the polls in that state’s primary Tuesday.

Alabama Congressman Robert Aderholt made the news public this morning speaking on a radio program.

“He and his wife will be voting for Rick Santorum for president. I was very excited to hear our governor felt his values were in line with Rick Santorum,” Aderholt said.

The Santorum campaign released the following statement regarding the endorsement:

I am honored to have Governor Bentley's support. Governor Bentley is a true public servant who goes to work each day fighting for Alabama and her people. He understands what small business owners and entrepreneurs are facing, and he has applied those principles day-in and day-out. That is the mindset we need in Washington, one that doesn't represent 1%, 95%, or 99% of Americans - but all Americans. I am committed to doing just that, representing all Americans and with support of great Americans like Governor Bentley, I am confident we have taken one more big step toward realizing that opportunity.

Former Alabama governor Bob Riley endorsed Mitt Romney.  Santorum and fellow Romney are running in a virtual dead heat in Alabama and Mississippi where votes will also be cast on Tuesday.  Both states are known for their ultra-conservative voters where religion plays an important role and Romney’s Mormon faith may not sit well with voters there.  If Romney can pull off a victory in one or both of Tuesday’s primaries he will most likely seal the GOP nomination but Santorum and Newt Gingrich vowed to remain in the race regardless of Tuesday's outcomes.
