Patrons filled every seat at the Austin landmark Paramount Theatre for the premiere of the film “21 Jump Street” starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. The duo graced the red carpet wearing police outfits complete with tight shorts and leather gloves. Also in attendance were the directors, screenwriter, other crew members and actors Dave Franco and Rob Riggle. Both Tatum and Hill are executive producers of the project, and the SXSW premiere marked their first screening with an audience.

The film, to be released Mar. 16, has a straightforward storyline that brings no major plot surprises. After the drug HFS (you’ll have to watch the movie to figure out what that means) kills a local high school student, cops Schmidt and Jenko go undercover to bust the drug ring. Hilarious moments, mega-movie star cameos, intense action and a bit of sweet romance make this film a must see. And beneath the action packed bromance film lies a hearty story of friendship – Tatum and Hill are a dynamite duo.

“Well, it’s a bromance,” said Tatum when asked what compelled him to take on this role after his recent romantic flicks like “Dear John” and “The Vow.”

If the uproarious laughter and standing ovation of the friendly Austin audience wasn’t enough to prove their adoration, audience members even asked, “what’s next?” and “can we expect a sequel?”

Hill responded by encouraging the audience to tell their friends about the film. If the money is made, so will a sequel. Hill then looked out in the audience happily and claimed anything that happens with the film from this point on doesn’t really matter.

“We’ll have this night forever.”
