A film Whitney Houston filmed before her death is still planning to make it to the big screen. Houston had been trying to make the film "Sparkle" for more than a decade.

The film is a remake of a 1976 movie about three sisters who form a pop group. Houston will get a producers credit in the film, reports The Daily Beast.

American Idol winner Jordan Sparks plays a lead role as one of the sisters and Houston plays her mother, reports the New York Times.

Sparkle is scheduled to be released Aug. 17. Houston will be featured on the film’s soundtrack singing a cover of the gospel song “Eyes on the Sparrow” and a new track “Celebrate” with Sparks.

Houston has previously found box office success staring in "The Bodyguard," "The Preacher’s Wife" and "Waiting to Exhale."

The film was viewed by some as a comeback opportunity for Houston.
