Valentine's Day: a day for blossoming love and adorable consumer products. For some people with a significant other, Valentine's Day is an excuse to splurge on gifts, be obnoxiously romantic, and stuff your face with heart-shaped chocolates.

But for many, Valentine's Day is more like Single Awareness Day, and serves as an unpleasant reminder of a lackluster love life. But is it really so bad to be single on this day of romance? Perhaps not, and the evening of the 14th need no longer be spent watching Lifetime movies alone with a pint of Häagen Daz.

Valentine's Day is becoming more accommodating to those flying solo, and what used to be a day of depressing wallowing is becoming a day self-appreciation. The idea of being your own Valentine makes the day less daunting, and allows for singles this holiday to find content in the solitude. Spoiling yourself is the best way to not only survive a lonely Valentines Day, but relish it.

Women and men everywhere are embracing the day, and some even find it to be the best day of the year to go out and look for that special someone. I mean, there have to be a few good ones that haven’t been snatched up yet, right?

Take a girls night out, go out to a swanky dinner and a trendy nightclub. Boys, grab beers with your gang and meet up with all the single ladies at a nightclub. Or, take a different approach and forgo the search altogether. Opt for a girly wine night, or a guy’s night out.

All in all, Valentine;s Day is a day for lovers, but that doesn’t mean the single folks don’t deserve just as much lovin’. So appreciate your friends, your family, and most of all yourself this Valentine's Day, and enjoy the single life!
