Tight end Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick of Whitney High School in Rocklin, Calif. signed with USC on Wednesday morning, the school confirmed.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder has been committed to the Trojans since June 2011. He selected USC over Colorado, Oregon and UCLA, among others.

Cope-Fitzpatrick is rated as a four-star recruit by Rivals, ESPN and Scout. ESPN ranked him as the top tight end in the country, as placed him as the No. 105 overall prospect. Scout.com put him at No. 4 among tight ends, and added that "his future will likely be on the offensive or defensive line." Rivals also rated Cope-Fitzpatrick as the No. 4 tight end, and as the No. 156 prospect overall.

He is likely to redshirt for the 2012 season, according to Michael Lev of the Orange County Register. Lev notes the existing depth for the Trojans at tight end, including starters Xavier Grimble and Randall Telfer, along with the returns of Christian Thomas and Junior Pomee.
