Update (Wednesday 3 p.m.): USC confirmed receiving Williams' National Letter of Intent.

Defensive lineman Leonard Williams of Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Fla. has signed with the USC Trojans, he announced Wednesday.

Williams signed with USC after fielding offers from Florida, Florida State and Auburn, among other schools.

The 6-foot-5, 255-pounder was rated as a consensus four-star prospect. Rivals ranked him as the No. 5 defensive end in the country, and the No. 53 prospect overall. ESPN had Williams as the fifth-best defensive tackle, and No. 50 among all prospects. Scout ranked the Florida player as the No. 13 defensive end, touting his athleticism, strength and ability to play tackle or end.

Williams made his official visit to 'SC on Jan. 20. He could compete for playing time immediately after the Trojans lost a few D-linemen this offseason. Nick Perry headed early to the NFL Draft, along with graduates Christian Tupou and DaJohn Harris.
