Kevin Mcguire, a New Jersey high school senior, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2007 at the age of 13. For his senior prom, which takes place on June 1, McGuire was nervous that he wouldn’t find a date after losing his hair due to treatment, so his older sister Victoria started a Facebook page to petition a date with Taylor Swift for her brother.

“Nothing, and I mean NOTHING brightens Kevin’s day more than Taylor Swift,” Victoria wrote on the page. “Kevin DESERVES more than anyone a special event in his life.”The page went viral, acquiring over 90,000 fans, and caught the attention of Swift who posted a response on the page.

“I’m so sorry but I won’t be able to make it to your prom,” Swift wrote, “But I was wondering, the ACM [ Academy of Country Music] Awards are coming up. Would you be my date?”

“Obviously I said yes,” McGuire told USA Today. But while he thinks the awards show would be “a lot better than the senior prom,” he is unsure if he can make it due to his illness. He and his sister planned to make a YouTube video response for Swift, but he is unable to because of his fever.

McGuire is currently being treated at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and will be in and out of the hospital for the rest of his senior year.

The awards show takes place on April 1 in Las Vegas. Swift has been nominated for Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the year, and Video of the Year.
