In an interview with The Fashion Informer Tadashi Shoji revealed his Fall 2012 inspiration is “The Golden Age of Shanghai.”  As the crowd poured in for the final show of the first day of the Fall 2012 New York Fashion week the excitement was palpable. The ambient walls were projected with a lace veil that audience members couldn’t wait to peel back.

Reminiscent of the golden age of Hollywood al la 1930’s Tadashi Shoji revealed opulent jewel tone dresses in lace pattern tiers and strategically inlaid panels in the front décolletage and backs of his masterfully sewn creations.

His silhouette for eveningwear was a fluid river of jewel-toned velvet that hugged the models' bodies. Simple trains with subtle ruching trailed behind the models as they glided past the runway entrance. The models' make-up was accented with ruby red lips and simple up do's, allowing the collection to fully incorporate the Shangri-la feel Shoji so excellently executed.

Stand-outs included the tiered lace dresses reminiscent of flamenco dancers in movement and tone.  Sheer silk pleating also appears to be a fall trend, with Tadashi executing the color combination palate with a masterful eye.

All women will find the collection alluring. Evening wear by Tadashi Shoji definitely appeals to the Golden Age of Hollywood we see picking up steam as Hollywood honors films like “The Artist.”

The last show of the day set the week up for some exciting renovations of classic and vintage trends we are sure to see repeated and re-structured. One thing is certain; Tadashi Shoji romanced a crowd with his elegant, jewel-toned creations.
