UPDATE: Multiple outlets are now reporting that Trump will will endorse Rommey.

From The Washington Post:

Trump plans to make the announcement at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time, says a senior Romney campaign official with knowledge of the plans.

Earlier reports had suggested that Trump would endorse former House speaker Newt Gingrich. CNN first reported Trump’s plan to back Romney.

The endorsement, for all the media attention it has gotten, will likely make little difference to voters.

There are reports that real estate mogul Donald Trump, who once flirted with seeking the GOP presidential nomination, will endorse Newt Gingrich on Thursday.

Trump is scheduled to make a “major announcement” at a press conference at 11:30 a.m. in Las Vegas.  Politico reports sources have confirmed “The Donald” will indeed endorse the former House Speaker.  The move comes two days before the Nevada caucus, a contest won by the surging Mitt Romney in 2008.

Gingrich, facing a double-digit defeat in Florida, vowed earlier in the week to stay in the race until the Republican National Convention and a Trump endorsement could be a much-needed boost to his campaign, though Gingrich downplayed the news on Wednesday.

“I have no idea what the Donald is going to do,” Gingrich said. “He is always interesting and I don’t know of anybody who does a better job of getting attention by announcing that he will presently announce something.”

Trump's expected endorsement comes less than a week after Gingrich picked up the endorsement of former candidate Herman Cain.
