Politics Today: Obama Up, Romney Down, And More
Romney Poll Numbers Plunge: Poor Mitt Romney. It must be tough knowing that Republican voters are still looking for another candidate to supplant his position as the expected Republican presidential nominee. From Rick Perry, to Herman Cain, to Newt Gingrich...it seems like every GOP candidate was the frontrunner or main challenger to Romney at one point. Now, it's Rick Santorum's turn. A new Rasmussen Report of likely Republican Primary Voters shows the former Pennsylvania Senator leading Romney by 12 points nationally, 39 percent to 27 percent. A little over a week ago, Romney was leading Gingrich 34 to 27 percent in the same survey. The takeaway: GOP voters are still obviously not sold on Romney as their nominee.
Michigan Governor Set To Endorse Romney: Willard Mitt Romney was born in Michigan. His father was a former (and quite popular) three-term governor there. So it would be pretty embarrassing -not to mention devastating to his presidential campaign - if he lost in the state (though current polls suggests that's not just possible, but entirely likely.) Fortunately for Romney, he'll get some much needed help in the state from the endorsement of Gov. Rick Snyder, the Associated Press reported. The AP also reported that Gov. Snyder is expected to appear at a luncheon with Romney on Thursday. Romney won Michigan in the 2008 Republican presidential primary.
Santorum Says North Dakota Is Prime Target For Terrorism: North Dakota is a potential target for a terrorist attack, so says Rick Santorum. Speaking to an audience at Tioga Public School gymnasium Wednesday, Santorum warned those in attendance that their energy reserves make them a target. "Folks, you've got energy here. They're going to bother you. They'll bother you, because you are a very key and strategic resource for this country," the GOP presidential candidate told the crowd, adding, "No one is safe. No one is safe from asymmetric threats of terrorism."
Bachmann Not Joining "DWTS" Cast: Following on the heels of Herman Cain, former presidential candidate Michele Bachmann says she will not be joining the cast of the next season of "Dancing with the Stars." Bachmann addressed rumors on her House website that she would be on the popular dance show. Said Bachmann: "In full disclosure, I did win a polka dancing competition when I was in the tenth grade at my alma mater, Anoka High School in Anoka, Minn. But, despite my tenth grade polka success and my lifelong love of ballroom dancing, the recent rumors are false. I will not be joining ‘Dancing with the Stars.’"
