Mitt Romney is poised to win the Nevada caucus Saturday, backed by his 51 percent win in Nevada during his bid for the presidential candidacy in 2008.

According to a poll conducted by the Las Vegas Review Journal, Romney is the favorite to win in Nevada, holding 45 percent support, as compared to 25 percent for Gingrich, 11 percent for Santorum, and 9 percent for Paul.

The Las Vegas Review Journal explains the key factor to look for in the caucuses:

“Whether Romney, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holds his strong Mormon voting bloc and makes gains to equal or surpass his 51 percent finish four years ago when he won the GOP caucuses here.”

If Romney wins Nevada, he would have three states (Nevada, New Hampshire, and Florida) to assist him in winning the GOP nomination. The Huffington Post reports:

“The state's contest comes at an ideal time for the former Massachusetts governor. Knocked off balance by Newt Gingrich in South Carolina, Romney picked up the must-win Florida primary. Nevada is a chance to deal Gingrich a quick second blow, and it's home turf for Romney. The state's outsized Mormon population came out big to Friday's rally, came out big in 2008 for him, and will come out big again Saturday.”

In Romney’s pre-caucus rally Friday, he delivered a speech, in which he reinforced the idea of restoring America to greatness:

“I want to make sure America remains the shining city on the hill…I want to restore to America the values that made us the great nation that we are…If I'm president, I will do everything in my power to abide by those principles.”

Nevadan Republicans’ support for Romney comes largely from the idea that he is the candidate most likely to beat Obama.

Winning Nevada will give Romney momentum in races in other states, including those upcoming in Colorado, Minnesota, and Missouri.
