Michigan Governor Rick Snyder is going to announce Thursday that he is endorsing Mitt Romney.

Snyder decided to support Romney because of his fiscal record and plan to cut spending, according to The Daily Beast.

Michigan’s primary will take place Feb. 28. A win here could help Romney gain momentum after losses to Rick Santorum in Minnesota, Missouri and Colorado.

Snyder will announce his endorsement at an even in Farmington Hills, Mich., he told the Associated Press Wednesday.

Romney was born in Michigan and spent his childhood there. Romney’s father, George, formerly served as Michigan’s governor.

Snyder is a former venture capitalist and was elected in 2010, campaigning as an “outsider with business experience,” according to the AP. Snyder will argue that Romney has a conservative fiscal record.

Romney won the GOP primary in Michigan in 2008.
