Jabari Ruffin, an outside linebacker from Downey, Calif., announced on Wednesday that he would sign a letter of intent to play for USC and coach Lane Kiffin next fall.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 230 pound, the Southern California native is a versatile player and was athletic enough to play both defensive end and wide receiver last season for Downey High School.

As USC returns all three of its starting linebackers from a season ago, freshmen Dion Bailey, Lamar Dawson and Hayes Pullard, Ruffin could be challenged to factor into the rotation – at least in the earlygoings.

Ruffin is rated as a four-star prospect by ESPN, Rivals.com and Scout. Those same recruiting services rate him as the No. 4, No. 13 and No. 1 outside linebacker, respectively.

Ruffin had been a USC commit since last March.
