Gap is foraying into the social media marketplace with the launch of their new digital experience called Styld-by.com.  The site is a digital stylist catalogue featuring six influential fashion and lifestyle bloggers from sites such as Fabsugar, Refinery29 and Lookbook.nu.

Bloggers, stylists, and fashionistas were on hand at the site's launch party on February 23, 2012 at the Los Angeles Grove.

Upon arrival to the Styld.by launch party, Fashionistas made it clear that color blocking is essential when it comes to picking up key pieces from Gap’s Spring 2012 collection.

You can pick your color blocking poison of choice, ranging from bright to muted pastels offered in an array of styles. Spring has sprung for fans of color blocking as they can find stylish and affordable basics at the Gap.

Bloggers attending the event were treated to a complimentary nail design bar (by KLEUR) where one of the stand-out designs was the formal tuxedo seen on Zooey Deschannel at the 2012 Golden Globes.

Aside from complimentary drinks and nail designs, just in time for our Sunday night Oscar party, Gap provided a generous 20% in-store discount for all patrons on the night of the launch party.

Styld-by.com is a smart and necessary move for Gap to make when the face of retail is dramatically overhauling itself by incorporating new media tools.  Fashion bloggers are the voice of the everyday girl on the street with an amplified audience online telling them where they can find the best styles at the best prices.

While the site's launch is a step in the right direction for Gap Corporation there is still a component missing from their site. They are missing the key element that makes social, well, social. That element is a place where anyone visiting the site can create their own looks and add them to an online gallery. Style-by  does provide plenty of options to share their site's content via social media feeds, but they missed out on the personalization element that encourages site visitors to generate their own content.

Make sure you check out Style-by.com for all the latest spring 2012 fashions by Gap styled by the webs top fashion stylists here.
