Shimmer and sparkle were key looks at the 2012 Grammy Awards. With the exception of the inevitable and unfortunate few, including Nicki Minaj (what was she thinking, wearing a religious-themed dress and coming with a so-called Pope?), the red carpet was honored with bold and beautiful dresses. Needless to say, not everyone gets to wear those gowns on a casual basis. However, there is no rule against using inspiration from Rihanna’s plunging backless dress or Adele’s shimmery classic-but-modern frock for our own styles. Here are five ways to incorporate these styles into your wardrobe - Grammy-inspired.

Adele

Adele hit all the right notes in her sparkling Giorgio Armani gown. This version from Modcloth does not have the sequins, but the similar cut and three-fourths length sleeve make it more wearable for an evening party. Don a coifed hairdo, red lips, and silver earrings, and you will sure to exude Old Hollywood glamour à l'Adele.

Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale looks stunning in a draped one-shoulder Zuhair Murad piece with bow detailing. This short and sexy dress looks fabulous on her; the draping gives it a Grecian touch and the bow gives it a flirty look. This green Modcloth double has similar draping and a slightly vintage take on Beckinsale’s gown.  Tie a velvet  bow on the shoulder to replicate her Grammy dress.

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood shone on the red carpet donning a Gomez-Gracia gown that was embellished with hundreds of silver sequins. It also featured a plunging back that offset her tan skin gorgeously. This stand-in Unica Melrose dress has similar sequin and back designs that is more wearable for a night out. Keep the rest of your ensemble simple (with the exception of killer heels) to let this bold dress stand out.

Rihanna

Rihanna’s backless Giorgio Armani dress, complete with a plunging neckline and hip slit, stunned audiences on the red carpet. Her gown screams modern, sexy, and risqué, which accurately represents her personality.  This Asos piece has a similar backless design and a floor-length style, but more appropriate for daytime wear. Add some bold accessories to look chic on the city streets.

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton, a regular on the red carpet, does not disappoint in her stunning Basil Soda dress. Her white gown is complemented with a gold belt and gold embellishments, giving it a simple but elegant look. This Stop Staring dress is not as prominent as Hilton’s dress, but the fitted style and belt are appropriate for work or a day out. Wear a long coat and accessorize to create a classy and elegant look.
