Kidnapping victim Elizabeth Smart married her fiancé Saturday at a Mormon Temple in Hawaii.

Smart, 24, was abducted when she was 14 and held captive for nine months.

Since her rescue, Smart has become involved in advocacy work for crime victims and formed her own foundation to protect children from abuse through prevention and education.

She met her husband, 22, while doing missionary work in Paris. The wedding was originally scheduled for this summer, but after too much media attention, they decided to move it, reports The Daily Beast.

"To be in one of her favorite places with her family made for a dream wedding. It's been an absolutely beautiful day,'' her spokesman, Chris Thomas, told Hollywood Gossip. "She is positively radiant. And Matthew couldn’t be happier."

"Elizabeth's desire was for what most women want — to celebrate her nuptials in a private wedding with family and close friends," family spokesman Chris Thomas said in a statement to the Associated Press. "She decided, about a week ago, the best way to avoid significant distraction was to change her wedding plans and to get married in an unscheduled ceremony outside of Utah."
