Long sleeves were a common trend on the Oscar red carpet Sunday night, but only a few stars successfully pulled the look off.

Berenice Bejo stylishly dawned a long sleeved Elie Saab gown in a light mint green. The sheer, crystal encrusted sleeves added to the whimsical effect of the dress making her look youthful as well as elegant and mature.

In a white Valentino Couture gown, Shailene Woodley came just short of modern elegance. Her sleeves distracted from the unique laser cut design on the bodice of the dress. The high neckline and matronly shape of the dress coupled with the thick material of her sleeves aged "The Descendants" star and hid her natural, lively grace.

Many other stars completely missed the mark, including "Bridesmaids" star Melissa McCarthy. The sleeves on her blush colored Marina Rinaldi dress were an awkward length and shape, distracting from the otherwise flattering shape of the gown.

Despite the many long sleeve mishaps, actresses Jennifer Lopez and Meryl Streep looked stunning in their tasteful long-sleeved ensembles.
