Top Headlines

Three weeks into 2012 means one thing...the NHL All-Star Game is that much closer. The game is set to start on January 29 but if you’re in the area, check out the weeklong festivities in Ottawa. Kings' goalie Jonathan Quick has been selected as an All-Star.

We’re halfway done with the 2011-12 season and Sidney Crosby may not be able to return to the ice in time. Crosby has had his share of ups and down with concussion-like symptoms bothering him since his injury in January of 2011. He has played in 8 games this season and will be meeting with a neurologist to help him with his symptoms.

Keep your eyes peeled for the newest addition of "NHL 36" with Detroit Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom on January 25.  If you haven’t see the show on NBC Sports Network yet, it follows a NHLer for 36 hours straight and condenses it into a 30 minute special. 

Trades

-The Montreal Canadiens traded Mike Cammalleri and goalie Karri Ramo to the Calgary Flames in exchange for Patrick Holland and Rene Bourque, both forwards.

Injuries

-Nineteen-year-old Carolina Hurricanes Jeff Skinner has been activated after missing 16 games due to a concussion.

-Washington Capitals forward Mike Green has had his share of injuries this season. Green will be undergoing abdominal surgery and will miss 4-6 weeks.

-Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn underwent an appendectomy on January 15 and will have to miss 10 to 14 days. Benn was chosen to play in the All-Star game on January 29 but it is uncertain if he will participate.

-Chicago Blackhawks have announced that Daniel Carcillo will undergo knee surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The forward’s left knee was injured on January 2 after Edmonton Oilers defenseman Tom Gilbert fell on his knee after a Carcillo hit.

-Goaltender Rick DiPietro of the New York Islanders will have to undergo surgery to fix a sports hernia after it was discovered during DiPietro’s visit with the team doctors after his December 3 groin injury. The recovery time could be months, with the earliest being April, according to Newsday.

Suspensions

Columbus Blue Jackets Dane Byers was suspended for three games after he checked Andrew Desjardins of the San Jose Sharks on January 14.  The forward will forfeit more than $8,918 of his salary for the suspension.

-Forward Jean-Francois Jacques of the Anaheim Ducks was suspended for three games after he illegally checked Columbus Blue Jackets forward R.J. Umberger during the third period of the January 8 game. Jacques will lose $23,780 in salary and was eligible to play during the January 15 against the Vancouver Canucks.

-Boston Bruins Brad Marchand was suspended for five games after he clipped Sami Salo, defenseman for the Vancouver Canucks, during the second period of the January 7 game. The forward will forfeit $152,439 and will be able to play again on January 19 against the New Jersey Devils.

Goal of the Week

-Behold, Jack Johnson tebowing after a goal against the Capitals on January 9.  Although the Kings won the game 5-2, the story of the night was Johnson’s goal celebration.

Save of the Week

Winnipeg Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec did a crazy save during the January 12 against the San Jose Sharks.  Even thought the Jets lost 0-2, 6-foot-3-inch Pavelec got my vote for goalie with the quickest reflexes.  See for yourself:
