U.N. Nuclear Team Lands In Iran

The IAEA’s six-person team is led by chief inspector Herman Nackaerts will remain in Iran until Tuesday, reports The Daily Beast.
“We are trying... to resolve all the outstanding issues with Iran," Nackaerts told CNN. "We are looking forward to the start of a dialogue, a dialogue that is overdue."
IAEA’s decision to enter Iran came after the EU imposed new sanctions aimed at cutting funding to the country’s nuclear program. The U.S. and Australia have also raised sanctions against Iran this week.
Iran denies that it is trying to develop nuclear weapons.
"We are not very sure whether Iran has declared everything and, therefore, we are not very sure that everything stays in peaceful purpose,” energy agency Director General Yukiya Amano told reporters at the Davus Forum in Switzerland Friday, reports CNN. "In addition, we have information that Iran has engaged in activities related to the development of nuclear weapons. Therefore, we need to clarify."
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he was ready to discuss Iran’s nuclear energy program with world powers including Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the U.S.
A mission like this by a senior team is unusual, which shows the seriousness of the concerns.
