London police made five arrests during a Saturday morning raid of Rupert Murdoch’s News International headquarters and the accused people’s homes, The Guardian reported.

Four of the detained, who were current and former journalists from Murdoch's The Sun tabloid, were booked on suspicion of bribing police for stories. A 29-year-old police officer was also arrested, according to the Associated Press.

Authorities have begun a search to obtain any potential evidence that might suggest the journalists made payments to police, according to The Guardian.

"Home addresses of those arrested are currently being searched and officers are also carrying out a number of searches at the offices of News International in Wapping. These searches are expected to conclude this afternoon," Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

The BBC identified the arrested journalists as ex-deputy editor Fergus Shanahan, ex-managing editor Graham Dudman, crime editor Mike Sullivan and head of news Chris Pharo.

Police said the arrests were made based on information provided by News Corp.’s Management and Standards Committee, an internal investigation body set up by Murdoch, according to the AP.

"News Corporation made a commitment last summer that unacceptable news gathering practices by individuals in the past would not be repeated," the company said in a statement.

Murdoch shut down the News of the World last July in the wake of public backlash against the tabloid for illegally eavesdropping on phone messages to obtain information.
