Murdoch's handle, rupertmurdoch, was confirmed Monday by spokeswoman Daisy Dunlop at News International.

The 80-year-old media mogul attracted more than 77,000 followers by Monday night, two days after he started tweeting. He had 46,000 followers Monday morning.

Murdoch's tweets included a complaint about "too many people" on the island of St. Bart's, and an eager, "Back to work tomorrow. Enough idling!"

Murdoch has been an avid tweeter thus far, tweeting seven times New Year's Eve and nine times New Year's Day.
