Gingrich Supporter Donates $5 Million To Super PAC: Dr. Miriam Adelson, the wife of a longtime friend of Newt Gingrich, has donated $5 million to the pro-Gingrich super PAC Winning Our Future, The New York Times reported Monday. Her husband, billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, also donated $5 million to the same super PAC earlier this month. Those funds were used towards a barrage of attack ads in South Carolina. Dr. Adelson reportedly requested that her money go “to continue the pro-Newt message," rather than on negative ads against Mitt Romney.
Paul To Skip Florida Primary: Ron Paul will not be in Florida the day the state holds it primary, choosing instead to campaign in Nevada and Florida. CNN explains why: "Fifty delegates are up for grabs in Florida, but it's a winner-take-all state and Paul's campaign feels the can better spend their resources in February's early caucus states, where they think they have a better chance to pick up delegates." Nevada's caucuses are on February 4, while Colorado's are three days later. Florida's primary is on January 31.
Polls Show Gingrich Surging in Florida, Nationwide More bad news for Mitt Romney - his once formidable lead over rival Newt Gingrich has all but evaporated. Three new polls now show Gingrich now leading Romney in the Florida race. Nationally, Romney clings to a narrow lead over Gingrich, the latest Gallup daily tracking poll shows. According to the poll, Romney leads Gingrich 29% to 28%. Just a week ago, the survey of Republican voters nationally showed Romney beating Gingrich in the poll by a whopping 23 percentage points.
Giffords Resignation Video: In an emotional video posted to YouTube, Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords announced she was resigning her congressional seat to focus on her recovery from a gunshot wound to the head. In the video, Giffords promised constituents she would be back: " I'm getting better. Every day, my spirit is high. I will return and we will work together for Arizona and this great country." Giffords' office said she will attend the State of the Union address Tuesday in Washington, before she formally steps down. Watch the full video:
