Politics Today: The "2012 New Hampshire Primary" Edition

What The New Hampshire Polls Show: Romney is expected to win - and to win big at that - the latest polls show. According to Real Clear Politics, the most recent average of polls shows Romney ahead of the other candidates by nearly 20 points. Paul and Huntsman are running second and third respectively, but are well behind Romney, according to the polls.
Paul Hoping For Strong Finish: Texas Congressman Ron Paul is hoping to use a strong showing in The Granite State to propel him into the South Carolina primary and the next round of presidential nominating contests, the Associated Press is reporting. Paul will visit polling places around the state on Tuesday, before heading to South Carolina on Wednesday.
Romney's Gaffe Could Hurt: Mitt Romney is on the defensive after he made a major gaffe that could potentially prove to be damaging to his campaign. Romney was responding to a question about health care policy and the ability to change insurance providers when he said "I like being able to fire people who provide services to me. You know, if someone doesn't give me the good service I need, I want to say, ‘You know, I'm going to get someone else to provide this service to me.’” Naturally, the part of the quote his rivals picked up on was the part where Romney said he liked to fire people. Political Wire made a good point on why the gaffe could hurt: "Romney's comment is actually quite similar to John Kerry's, 'I voted for it before I voted against it.' The context didn't matter and the damage was done." Look for video of the gaffe to be used by his opponents in the next round of anti-Romney campaign ads.
Gingrich Gets Palin Endorsement: Newt Gingrich got the endorsement of a Palin ahead of the New Hampshire primary, but it probably was not the one he was looking for. Todd Palin - famous for being the husband of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin - told ABC News on Monday he was endorsing Gingrich for president. As for Sarah Palin's preferred candidate? Todd Palin said she has yet to make up her mind on who to endorse.
