The Costa Concordia captain told a coast guard official he intended to stay aboard the cruiseliner and help the remaining passengers, according to audio on posted on Italian television, ABC reports.

From ABC:

The coast guard asks, "Captain, is everyone going to abandon the ship or is someone going to stay?"

Schettino replies: "I'm going to stay here."

Schettino claimed last week that he tripped and fell into a lifeboat, never intending to abandon ship.

He could face criminal charges of abandoning ship and manslaughter.

The captain has denied these charges, saying he was directing resscue operations from his lifeboat and claiming that the ship hit a rock not on his map, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Another body was found Sunday, bringing the death toll to 13. Twenty remain missing.
