A state news agency in Iran claims that Iran fired a new medium-range missile that was designed to avoid radar detection in the Strait of Hormuz, according to The Daily Beast. The Strait of Hormuz is a waterway that Iran is threatening to block off due to increasing sanctions from the West.

The missile was fired during naval exercises in the Gulf and has new technology, reports the Guardian.

This comes a few weeks before EU ministers will meet to consider additional sanctions against Iran such as an oil embargo.

Iran also reported on Sunday that it produced its first nuclear fuel rod.
