Avril Lavigne Teams Up With Sally Hansen To Sell Nail Polish
If there’s one thing Avril Lavigne is good at, it’s branding herself, and she’s not ashamed of it. The lead single (read: four-minute-commerical) of her latest album, What the Hell, topped the charts in more than 15 countries. Fueled further by her international success in clothing lines and fragrance, she is now ready to rock the Beauty industry.
The Punk Princess recently signed a deal with Sally Hansen to release a new limited collection of ‘Real Nail Polish Strips’ in the spring. The strips, as the name suggests, are made of ‘real’ nail polish and hence supposedly better than regular nail strips that you glue to your nails. They will be available in $9.99 kits, which will include 16 nail-polish strip designs and application materials.
With the strips sporting designs like tiny skulls, stars and leopard prints, the collection reflects Avril’s personal pop-punk style. In a phone interview with WWD, Avril seemed super excited at the speed with which the strips can be applied.
“This is pretty much the coolest thing, because I also do clothing — I love clothing, nails and fragrance, hair, makeup, all that stuff. I was really excited about the Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips — especially since they’re super quick. You clean your nails, peel the strips and apply them, file and go. I’m superfast at it, so it takes me like five minutes to do my nails. And it’s supercool because the designs that I came up with are my personal style and vibe — they’re rock ’n’ roll and fun and bright and colorful. You have sparkles and little stars — they are cute. For me, I’ll be flying on a plane and be like, ‘Sh--, I need to do my nails.’ I can do these on a plane; I’ve done them in the car.”
Believe it or not, Avril has a greater fan following than ever. That’s millions of sales ensured already. Her previous ventures in fashion have all been overwhelmingly positive in terms of revenue. So let’s hope Avril’s idea of “empowering girls to creatively express themselves” turns out well!
