Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has pulled cans of Enfamil Newborn baby formula from 3,000 stores nationwide this week after a Missouri newborn who drank the formula died from a rare bacterial infection, Reuters reported.

Ten-day-old Avery Cornett of Lebanon, Missouri, tested positive for a bacteria called Cronobacter.

According to Reuters, a federal investigation is under way and no link has been found between Cornett's illness and the formula.

A spokeswoman told Reuters that Wal-Mart began taking the formula with lot number ZP1K7G from their shelves Monday night.

The formula's manufacturer, Mead Johnson Nutrition Co. said that the lot number of Enfamil Newborn formula tested negative for the bacteria when it was packaged. The company has not recalled the product.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior urged consumers who bought the formula from that lot number to throw it away or return it to the store they purchased it from.
