More than 100,000 homes remain without power Saturday morning after strong winds blasted Southern California Wednesday evening according to utility officials who spoke with NBC Los Angeles.

Most affected are residents in the San Gabriel Valley. An estimated 96,000 customers are still facing power outages with an additional 24,000 residents in Los Angeles still in the dark.

“At this time, the current estimated duration of power outages is 24 to 48 hours from the state of the outage,” Maychelle Yee, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said. “However, a very small percentage of our customers may experience outages lasting more than 48 hours.”

100 workers are expected to work around the clock to help restore power this weekend.

Weather reports are forecasting more strong winds over the weekend. A red flag warning has been issued for Los Angeles and surrounding areas. The warning is expected to expire Sunday at 2 p.m.

Wednesday and Thursday’s winds were some of the worst seen in years according to weather officials. The winds helped topple trees, close schools and resulted in Los Angeles declaring a State of Emergency for the county.
