For those in the San Fernando Valley, Hollywood Hills, and Malibu area… hold on.
The winds are projected to target these areas Thursday night, according to the L.A. Times, and residents are urged to stay indoors.

Already on Thursday afternoon, Malibu Canyon saw a wind gust of 52 mph; Newhall Pass, 56 mph; and in the mountains north of San Fernando, 70 mph, reported the Times.

L.A. County declared a state of emergency Thursday afternoon after the windstorm hit Pasadena and surrounding foothill cities in the San Gabriel Valley and wiped out power for at least 130,000 L.A. Energy customers. 102,000 remained without power at 11 p.m. Thursday.

According to the LA Times:

In Pasadena, 450 trees had fallen or were damaged, according to a city statement. Two libraries – Lamanda Park Branch Library and Hill Avenue Branch Library – had minor damage from fallen trees. All Pasadena Unified School District schools were to remain closed on Friday. Azusa Unified also said it would be closed. And in San Gabriel, winds pushed over the city's decorated Christmas tree – which was lit up two days ago – and knocked over a  crucifix.

According to LA Weekly, Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogart said, "An assessment is underway of the [damage], which appears to be extensive."
