Jalapeños and cheese with a side of meth, anyone?

A man attempted to smuggle methamphetamine worth an estimated $140,000 in cans of jalapeño peppers and nacho cheese sauce to the U.S. in earlier this week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.

The 21-year-old Mexican citizen who lives in Oxnard told U.S. customs officials he was returning home to the U.S. after grocery shopping in Mexico.

Federal agents said the cans seemed too heavy and discovered the methamphetamine, weighing about seven pounds, after screening them with an X-ray machine, officials said.

The can of jalapanos and two cans of cheese sauce, along with the man's 1999 Toyota Solara, were seized at the San Ysidro border crossing.
