LAPD Source Admits Undercover Work At Occupy L.A.
None of the officers slept at the camp. They did, however, try to blend in during the weeks leading up to the raid.
The officer’s undercover work helped police gather information such as the potential weapons protesters were going to use for the raid including bamboo spears.
Police believe the undercover work is not significant or controversial because the Occupy meetings were public and easy to hear about.
On Friday, police filed criminal misdemeanor charges against 27 more protesters who were arrested during the police raid. In all, 46 of the 291 people arrested have been charged with failure to disperse from an unlawful assembly.
Los Angeles Police raided the Occupy L.A. campsite outside Los Angeles City Hall Wednesday morning. The raid was hailed as a success and nonviolent compared to other raids in Oakland and New York City.
A new report suggests a “nasty cough” was circulating the camp and living conditions were steadily declining. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa cited health concerns as one of the top reasons for the eviction. The sanitation department cleaned up approximately 30 tons of garbage the days after the raid.
