Brand cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the divorce. Shortly after filing, Brand released a statement that read, “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends.”

The couple was rumored to be having marital problems including a possible huge blowup in recent weeks. As a result, the couple did not spend Christmas together.

Earlier this week, Brand was spotted in London not wearing his wedding ring. Photographers witnessed Perry in Hawaii, also without a wedding ring on her finger.

Earlier in December, Brand appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” claiming his marriage to Perry was strong. "I'm really happily married ... I’m married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge. I’m still alive,” Brand told DeGeneres.
