Young the Giant’s Jacob Tilly and Payam Doostzadeh took time before their last show of the year at The Observatory in Santa Ana to talk about the crazy year they have had.

Jacob plays the guitar for Young the Giant and joined the band in 2004 when it was originally called “The Jakes”. Payam has been part of the band since 2008. Young the Giant toured with bands like Minus the Bear and Steel Train in 2010 before their album was released in January of 2011.

Their hit song “My Body” made the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and was recently performed at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

The band originated in Irvine and their last show was a part of the Hometown Holiday Benefit Concert to support the Irvine Public Schools Foundation’s effort to preserve the music programs in local schools. The band seemed excited to be home after months of being away on tour.

Payam and Jacob were incredibly humble and pleased to share their thoughts (interview video below).
