This Week In The NHL: Coach Murray And Trotz Reach 1000

This Week In The NHL is all about the coaches.  Two coaches, Terry Murray of the Los Angeles Kings and Barry Trotz  of the Nashville Predators,  reached a milestone in their careers on Nov. 12: coaching their 1,000th game.   Murray has also coached for Washington, Philadelphia.  Trotz is one of four coaches in NHL history to have coached 1,000 games with one team, the Predators. Hats off to Murray and Trotz!

Injuries

-Chicago Blackhawks Brent Seabrook left the Nov. 13 game against the Edmonton Oilers with a lower body injury during the second period after crashing into the boards. 

-Ryan Miller, goalie for the Buffalo Sabres, has a minor concussion, as reported by the Buffalo News.  Miller was hit by Milan Lucic of the Boston Bruins on Nov. 12 in the second period. 

-Lubomir Visnovsky, defenseman for the Anaheim Ducks, has a broken finger, which occurred during the third period in the 4-3 win against the Canucks on Nov. 11.

-Fellow Duck George Parros underwent surgery on his left eye to repair a torn retina.  Parros was injured on Nov. 4 after he was hit in the eye with a deflected puck during practice.

-Dallas Stars forward Steve Ott is listed on the injured reserved, after a lower body injury on Oct. 29.

-Mike Rupp of the New York Rangers underwent knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus on Nov. 9.  The center will miss four to six weeks.

-Los Angeles Kings Scott Parse has been put on the injured reserve list after suffering a lower body injury on Nov. 8.

- LA Kings forward Dustin Penner has been placed on the IR list with a hand injury, joining him is defenseman Alec Martinez with an upper body injury. 

- Daniel Paille, forward for the Boston Bruins, left the Nov. 7 game early after getting hit in the face by a puck, off a shot by New York Islanders Steve Staios.

Trades

-The St. Louis Blues traded Nikita Nikitin to the Columbus Blue Jackets, receiving Kris Russell in the Nov. 11 trade.

Contracts

-Braydon Coburn has signed a $18 million four-year contract extension with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Goal of the Week

Tyler Seguin is on fire in Boston, scoring goals left and right.  Some of his shots bounce too.  Watch the video to see this week’s goal of the week by the Stanley Cup champ.

Save of the Week

They don’t call Jonathan Quick “quickie” for nothing—just watch how quick his reflexes are as San Jose’s Joe Thornton tries to get a goal on Nov. 7.

Games of he Week

Anaheim Ducks @ Los Angeles Kings

The Southern California rivalry lives on as the Ducks make an appearance at Staples, taking on Dustin Brown and the Kings.  Watch the game on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 10:30 PM (ET) on Fox Sports West.

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Tampa Bay Lightning

Although Crosby’s return has not come yet, stay tuned to see if Penguins can keep up against Martin St. Louis and the Lightning on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 PM (ET) on NHL Network.

Dallas Stars @ Colorado Avalanche

The Lone Star State takes on the Avalanche on Friday, Nov. 18 at 9:00 PM (ET) on Fox Sports Southwest.

New York Rangers @ Montreal Canadiens

The Rangers head to Montreal on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7:00 PM (ET) on the NHL Network.

Carolina Hurricanes @ Philadelphia Flyers

Eric Staal and his Canes will have to face off against Philadelphia on Monday, Nov. 21 at 7:00 PM (ET).
