Occupy Los Angeles activists will march to "take over the streets" in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday to protest economic inequality, according to a press release issued on Tuesday.

More than 1,000 people are expected to close down the city streets, starting at the Bank of America, according to a release issued by advocacy group Good Jobs LA, which organized the protest.

"Bank of America took $230 billion in bailouts, made $4 billion in profits over the past two years and paid its CEO $10 million in 2010," the release said, "but contributed $0 in federal taxes in 2009 and 2010 while cutting small business lending by 89% since the economic crash."

The anti-Wall Street Occupy Los Angeles movement approaches the day of action from an increasingly tenuous position as other Occupy encampments across the country face sometimes violent eviction.

"We create fresh alternatives to the current situation every day by occupying public spaces and watching politicians scurry for their city ordinances," Occupy Wall Street said in a statement on their website. "Like mice in a burning building, their scrambling indicates that this movement is hot like fire!"

They go on to stress the importance of this week's action: "We must match their oppression with our focused intensity.  As we enter winter, let’s use N17 to turn up the heat by envisioning the world post-Wall St."

The protest will be part of a national "day of action" to take place on November 17, with similar marches planned in dozens of cities around the county, including New York, Chicago, and Washington, DC.
