Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is predicted to win the GOP 2012 presidential nominations, according to a Gallup poll of registered Republicans and Republican-leaning independents. The poll, released Thursday, shows that 45 percent of those polled believe Romney will receive the nomination regardless of which candidate they perfer. Herman Cain and Texas Gov. Rick Perry came in second and third, respectively.

The survey was conducted after sexual harassment allegations against Cain surfaced. Cain is accused of harassment while he was the president of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s. He has denied the allegations. Cain's popularity has taken a hit but he remains tied with Romney, each with 21 percent support as the candidate Republicans are most likely to support.

Tea Party supporters show a "slight preference” for Cain but are as likely as Tea Party non-supporters “to believe Romney will eventually win the nomination,” according to Gallup.

Here’s more from Gallup:

"One reason Republicans may be most likely to believe Romney will win is because it appears at this point he would be the strongest challenger to President Obama. In Gallup's August, September, and October presidential trial heats matching various candidates against Obama, Romney has fared no worse, and in some cases better, than his GOP rivals."

The Gallup poll was conducted Nov. 2 to Nov 6. and has a sampling error of +/- 4 percentage points.

Who do you think will win the GOP nomination?

your article is disreputable because to you its not important who the better choice would be, so its just part of the sickness we need to be healed of as a society and yet i fear you are not learning even though its a journalism school. just as sick is your romney photo in which he looks like adolf hitler - eyes glowing with an evil lust for power. you have no clue to how you are being led by infernal winds, do you?

I agree Ron Pual is the best choice but it will never happen because he doesn't tailor to special interest groups.

If Cain wins the nomination, Obama will have a landslide. It'll be over for the Republicans FOR YEARS TO COME.

I hate to tell you this. If Cain is the nominee, the entire country will go blue. If the Tea Party thinks Cain is going to get the black vote, they are nuts. Romney MAY have a chance against Obama...but not a great one..but he may edge out Obama in a nailbiter.

I voted for Obama last election and still think that was the best choice we had. The only republican I think could actually beat Obama is Ron Pual. I notice they don't talk about him much and maybe he isn't that popular but out of all the republicans running he's the only one who could actually take votes from Obama. If any of these others win I will just vote for Obama again.
