Marilyn Monroe is one of the most fascinating characters in American culture. From her range of comedic and dramatic movie roles to her troubled private life, she was constantly in the press and had her career moves and personal behaviors laid out for everyone to read about. Even today, she remains an extremely prominent pop and cultural icon and one of the world’s preeminent sex symbols. The infatuation with Monroe is nothing new and Hollywood A-listers seem to take part of this obsession as well. This includes Michelle Williams, Lindsay Lohan, Rihanna, Australian model Andrej Pejic, and Russian model Sasha Pivovarova.

Michelle Williams

Williams new movie “My Week With Marilyn” which will be released on November 23, features Williams as Monroe and shows a week of the latter’s life in 1956 while filming the movie “The Prince and the Showgirl.” Williams spent six months immersing herself into being Monroe, reading biographies and diaries and everything she could get her hands on, and even working to perfect Monroe’s walk and gaining weight to match her curves. In addition, Williams was also on Vogue’s October 2011’s cover and has a whole spread in the magazine.

Lindsay Lohan

Come late December, Lohan will have been featured as Monroe on not only one, but two occurrences. She will be featured in the January/February 2012 issue of Playboy, with bare photos accompanying an interview. She was reportedly paid $1 million to pose nude for the magazine. In 2008, she appeared in New York magazine in a series of bare photos named “The Last Sitting,” her first time channeling Monroe.

Continuing the Marilyn Monroe bandwagon, Rihanna appeared as Monroe on the November 2011 issue of British Vogue. Donning a couture white and black gown and sporting Marilyn’s signature wavy blonde hair with simple makeup, the singer’s look is rather subdued, in contrast with her usual elaborate styles.

Andrej Pejic

Monroe was not only popular in America, but also internationally. Pejic, the androgynous male model, posed as Monroe in Lovecat Magazine’s Fashion and Film Issue in a series of photos collectively named “Marilyn Off Duty.” He is convincing as Monroe in curly blonde locks and alluring make-up. This is not the first time Pejic impersonated Monroe; back in September, he shot a scandalous video set to the “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” song.

Sasha Pivovarova

Pivovarova appeared on the October 2011 issue of Vogue Paris embodying Monroe. Wearing a strapless Atelier Versace gown, she portrays a modern version of Monroe. Instead of the big wavy Monroe-esque hair and classic-looking ensemble, Vogue Paris opts for a straighter hairstyle and more contemporary gown.
