On Friday, the USA eventually went down to France 1-0 in Paris; with Marseille forward Loic Remy scoring the only goal of the game with 18 minutes to play. Tim Howard made a number of great saves against the French before Les Blues eventually found a way past him.

Argentina were held to a 1-1 draw against Bolivia at home in the 2014 World Cup Qualifiers. Bolivia surprisingly took the lead in the 55th minute through Marcelo Moreno, and while Ezequiel Lavezzi equalized just 4 minutes later, Argentina could not do enough to break down Bolivia's defense and give themselves the win in front of their home fans.

Germany and Ukraine shared all of 6 goals, as the two teams played out an entertaining 3-3 draw in Kiev. Bayern Munich players Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller both got on the scoresheet for Germany.

Elsewhere, the Netherlands were held to a disappointing goalless draw against Switzerland in Amsterdam, while Mario Balotelli continued his fine form in front of goal, by scoring his first goal for Italy, as they beat Poland 2-0. Liverpool striker Luis Suarez scored all four goals as Uruguay hammered Chile at home; while Nicklas Bendtner and Michael Krohn-Delhi scored to give Denmark a home win against Sweden.

Saturday’s big game was in London, as England clung on to pull off an unlikely 1-0 victory against Spain, the reigning world champions, at Wembley Stadium. Spain dominated possession, wasted a number of chances and came close when David Villa managed to beat Joe Hart but see his shot come back off the post. England restricted Spain in both halves, and held on to their lead after Frank Lampard scored in the 49th minute, giving England a much-needed moral boosting win at home.

While there were no notable international fixtures on Sunday, Brazil beat Egypt 2-0 on Monday night in Doha, to extend their winning run to five games. Egypt started the game as the better of the two sides, but Brazil came back strongly, with Hulk coming close to scoring twice. Eventually, Valencia forward Jonas managed to score twice from close range in the 39th and 59th minute respectively, as Brazil secured yet another victory.
