Leading GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain was caught off guard during an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Monday. It wasn’t a question about the sexual harassment allegations plaguing his campaign that tripped him up, instead it was a question about Libya.

When asked whether or not he agreed with President Obama’s handling of the situation in Libya, Cain paused and looked confused before asking his interviewer if Obama had supported the uprising and ousting of Moammar Gadhafi.  Cain then began to explain why he disagreed with the president’s approach before changing his mind saying, “I’ve got to go back and see.”

Cain also said “some people want to say, ‘Well, as president, you’re supposed to know everything.’ No you don’t.”

A spokesperson for Cain’s campaign said the candidate was confused during Monday’s interview due to a lack of sleep and a long day of traveling.

Cain has come under fire for his foreign policy ideas in the last few days.  During Saturday’s foreign policy and national security debate in South Carolina, Cain said he did not believe that waterboarding constituted torture.  Cain is also quoted in an article for the December edition of GQ released on Monday saying he believes most American Muslims hold “extremist views.”

But Cain has yet to see a large decrease in support despite the harassment allegations and foreign policy stumbles.
