Libya’s transitional government confirmed Saturday that its fighters had captured Saif al-Islam, the final fugitive son of Gaddafi.

Similar to the day Gaddafi was declared dead last month, the streets of Libya and Tripoli erupted in celebration.

According to Reuters, “Libyans believe Saif al-Islam holds the keys in his head to billions of dollars of public money amassed by the Gaddafi family but when captured, his captors said, they found only a few thousand dollars and a cache of rifles in seized vehicles.”

CBS News reports Saif al-Islam was detained about 30 miles west of the town of Obari with two aids as they tried to flee to Niger.

The International Criminal Court will try him for crimes against humanity.  Officials in the capital promised he would be closely guarded so that he could face trial.

“The good news is that Seif al-Islam is arrested, he is alive, and now he will face justice,” prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo said according to the Associated Press. "Where and how, we will discuss it.”
