A day after the resignation of the Academy Awards producer Brett Ratner, host Eddie Murphy is following suit.

Ratner was pressured to resign after making an anti-gay slur on air—when asked about film rehearsals in a Q&A session, Ratner claimed, “rehearsal is for fags.” Though he made a public apology, various LGBT rights groups and members of the academy were not placated.

Ratner, who directed Murphy in his film “Tower Heist”, had convinced Murphy to host.

Murphy said, “First and foremost I want to say I completely understand and support each party's decision with regard to a change of producers for this year's Academy Awards ceremony. I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I'm sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job.”

Don Mischer, co-producer, is still on board, but president of the academy Tom Sherak must now find replacements for both Murphy and Ratner.
