Crystal is replacing Eddie Murphy, who resigned from the job on Wednesday in support of Brett Ratne. Ratner had stepped down on Tuesday as producer of the Oscars after word got out about him using a homophobic slur during a screening of his new flick “Tower Heist.

Murphy was hoping for a career comeback with the movie “Tower Heist.” However, in the movie’s first week, it was trounced by Dreamwork's animated film “Puss in Boots.

This will be Crystal’s ninth time as an Oscars host. He last hosted in 2004, and turned down an offer to host the awards in 2006

He recently Tweeted, “Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions. Looking forward to the show.

In addition, Crystal released a statement through the Academy saying, “Some of the best moments of my career have happened on the Oscar stage. I am thrilled to be back there.”
