Ashton Kutcher apologized for tweeting in defense of Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, who was recently fired for involvement in a child sex-abuse scandal, before he knew the whole story.

"Heard Joe was fired, fully recant previous tweet! Didn't have full story. #admitwhenyoumakemistakes…" Kutcher tweeted. "This is an insane story, I just heard paterno was fired, getting the rest of the story now... Wow."

The "Two And A Half Men" star, who has a foundation against child sex-slavery, added, "As an advocate in the fight against child sexual exploitation, I could not be more remorseful for all involved in the Penn St. case."

Paterno left his 46-year coaching career after he failed to contact police with knowledge of his assistant coach’s misconduct. Jerry Sandusky was charged with 40 counts of sexual abuse of children over the weekend.

Demi Moore’s husband originally tweeted his support for the legendary coach.

"How dare you fire Jo Pa?" he tweeted. "#insult #noclass as a hawkeye fan I find it in poor taste."

Fans on the social networking site blasted Kutcher, who has 8.3 million Twitter followers.

"With 8 million followers, you MAY want to reserve your opinions until you know the whole story," tweeted a fan.

Kutcher seems to be working on reining in his tweets.

"As of immediately I will stop tweeting until I find a way to properly manage this feed," he tweeted before posting a statement about Twitter management. "I feel awful about this error. Won't happen again."
