Tonight’s episode of "The Vampire Diaries" appropriately titled "Ghost World" added yet another element of mythical creatures to the supernatural town of Mystic Falls-ghosts.

After Stefan Salvatore decided to turn off his humanity, which apparently can happen, he was sent to guard Elena Gilbert the former love of his life. Last week, we were left with the cliff hanger of Mason Lockwood, the dead werewolf (uncle to Tyler Lockwood) coming back to torture Damon?

Of course the CW network never leaves us hanging for too long so they began this week’s episode with Damon tied to a chair with a stake in his chest, a la Mason. Since no one can see ghosts, at least not at present tense within the episode, Damon thinks his brother is messing with him. We all know that Stefan is becoming a bit of a badass, but he wouldn’t torture his own brother!

With Founder’s Day festivities in the works, the whole town is getting ready for another large gathering, not surprising since it seems as though Mystic Falls is always celebrating something.

While Bonnie is trying to figure out how Mason came back and was able to not only touch Damon but torture him, Elena is trying to convince her brother Jeremy to contact Lexi, Stefan’s best friend. Obviously Jeremy is no help because he is too busy juggling his ghost ex-girlfriend, Anna and his current witch girlfriend, Bonnie.

Bonnie being her usual self is trying figure out what she did wrong when she brought Jeremy back from the dead last season when Grams appears. Next thing we know all the ghosts are back and yes, everyone can see them.

Best moment of the night, Elena walks in on Jeremy kissing Anna, a ghost! Lexi also makes an appearance and takes Stefan to try and "fix" him yet again. At the same moment Mason appears in the bar and hits Damon in the head with a glass.

Grams points out what everyone has known for a long time saying that Bonnie has made a mess. Without her knowledge, Bonnie allowed Jeremy to be able to see dead people once she brought him back to life and we all know what a good idea that was, he kissed his dead girlfriend! Not a good choice clearly.

Bonnie had cracked the door to the other side when she brought him back to life and after sending Matt’s sister back to the other side last episode, the door was busted wide open. Shocking, Bonnie made a magic mistake that is now affecting everyone on the show.

Meanwhile, Damon kind of apologizes to Mason and sets out on a treasure hunt with him to find a weapon to kill Klaus and save both Tyler (the new hybrid) and Stefan (Klaus’s minion).

If you are wondering what happened to Stefan the not-so-nice brother, at this moment in time, he is being "helped" by Lexi and Elena. Stefan’s intervention has begun and Lexi starts to detox Stefan at an alarming rate with only her mind. Very impressive and intense to say the least.

Moments later the entire town is put in danger when ghosts of the past are back and seeking revenge on the founding families. While Alaric is giving a speech everyone realizes that a member of the town council is dead, hanging from a tree.

Lucky for the rest of Mystic Falls, Bonnie has discovered the key to sending the ghosts back where they belong- Elena’s necklace!

Damon on the other hand is in another sticky situation, in a tunnel that is booby trapped with stakes. After being pierced by the stakes, Mason comes to the rescue and frees Damon prompting him to say, "I am not having a good day." Poor Damon, ever since he became the "nice guy" bad things keep happening.

While searching for the necklace, Jeremy admits that he loves Anna! Wow, Jeremy really is an outsider, falling for a witch and now a ghost. As soon as Anna hears this however, she reveals that she has the necklace, because clearly she is sneaky and wants to stay in the real world as long as possible.

Bonnie, Jeremy’s current girlfriend, is waiting for the necklace to perform another spell, since that seems to be going so well for her. With the help of her grandmother, all of the ghosts begin to disappear.

First the vengeful ghosts leave, then Mason disappears just as he was going to tell Damon what he found in the cave. Soon after, Lexi leaves, telling Elena that she is now in charge of saving Stefan.

Once a stunned and now single Jeremy leaves the room, a spark of fire ignites in the fireplace and the burned necklace changes back into its original form!

Damon still down in the tunnel calls Alaric to help him discover what Mason was about to get out of the cave before he disappeared. Alaric comes to his aid and uncovers cave paintings.

These cave paintings are a link to the original vampires who I can only think must have been hunter-gathers at one point in time. With all the ghosts gone, the vampires are about to refocus their attention on killing Klaus, the evil vampire who is in control of both Stefan and Tyler, in case you didn’t remember.

With Stefan stuck in the cellar trying to "find himself," Elena depressed, Jeremy without a girlfriend and Damon rekindling his friendship with Alaric it is only a matter of time until they kill Klaus, that is if they ever realize what happened to Catherine and the vampire who hunts vampires.
