Thousands of people attended the memorial and funeral for Troy Davis in Savannah, Ga., Saturday. According to a report by CBS News and The Associated Press, services held at Jonesville Baptist Church began with a slideshow of photos, including shots of Davis in his prison uniform, and lasted three and a half hours.

Besides remembering Davis, who was executed Sept. 21 for the murder of police officer Mark MacPhail in 1989, speakers steered Saturday's service toward a political end.

NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Jealous used the opportunity to rally support for abolishing the death penalty. "Troy's last words that night were he told us to keep fighting until his name is cleared in Georgia," Jealous said. "But most important, keep fighting until the death penalty is abolished and this can never be done to anyone else."

Among the other attendees were Amnesty International Executive Director Larry Cox, activist and comedian Dick Gregory, and the Rev. Raphael Warnock, who delivered the eulogy.

According to the AP report, Warnock was Davis' spiritual advisor on death row. "I did not come here all the way from Atlanta to tell you this is God's will," said Warnock, who is pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church where Martin Luther King Jr. preached. "God's will is not revealed in this tragedy."
