Traffic Delays Likely As Obama Visits L.A.
Traffic delays are most likely in the Cahuenga Pass and Burbank areas due to the president’s visit to Jay Leno early Tuesday morning (NBC studios are in Burbank) and two fundraisers at Hancock Park Monday night.
Councilman Bill Rosendahl told KNK radio that motorists should prepare for blockades on major east-west boulevards that link West L.A. with Hancock Park and north-south avenue delays on streets that cross them.
Obama is expected to be flown via helicopter from LAX to the UCLA area to avoid closing the San Diego Freeway, the Hollywood Patch reports.
Rosendahl told KNX radio Monday that Sunset, Santa Monica, Pico and Olympic Boulevards are under consideration for the route to Obama’s Hancock Park fundraisers. The exact route, and the location Obama will stay the night has not been revealed.
During Obama’s previous visits to L.A., major traffic jams developed. Last month, Obama’s appearance in West Hollywood led to a gridlock near two restaurants that hosted Obama.
The streets that close as the president’s vehicle moves around L.A. will immediately be reopened after the president leaves the location, according to the Hollywood Patch.
At Hancock Park Obama will attend two fundraisers at the homes of distinguished entertainers, according to the L.A. Times.
One event will be held at the home of Antonio Banderas and wife Melanie Griffith. The event will be hosted by Eva Longoria and is aimed at Hispanic donors, according to the Chicago Sun Times. The event was organized by the Futuro Fund. Guests will pay $5,000 to attend.
Obama will take part in another fundraising event at the home of producer James Lassiter which will be hosted by Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, according to Southern California Public Radio. To attend this fundraiser, guest will pay $35,800 a plate.
After the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on Tuesday, Obama will fly out of LAX a little before noon.
