October in the fashion world means all eyes look to the ever-famous, star-studded fashion week. However, this month we can see the industry’s interest go in an alternate direction. Many designers are thinking pink in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Breast Cancer’s signature color, pink, is showing up in thousands of designers’ and retailers’ exclusive items.

Items range from make-up, to handbags, to jewelry, to athletic equipment. Thousands of merchandisers are joining the trend of supporting an important cause. Items also range from very affordable to extremely pricey and high end.

Ann Taylor’s LOFT line has teamed up with three accessory designers in order to create three unique pieces to benefit Breast Cancer Research. Of every piece sold, five dollars will be donated to the cause.

Vera Wang’s more reasonably priced line, Simply Vera Vera Wang, has created a pink-checkered cosmetic bag at only $10. 100% of profits are to go to breast cancer research.

At the other end of the spectrum is Ralph Lauren, who has designed limited edition items. However, they come with a not-so-modest price tag. All proceeds from the Ralph Lauren Pink Pony collection benefit the Pink Pony Fund, a cancer support foundation.

In their signature preppy style, Vineyard Vines, has designed a tie rhymicly patterned with pink ribbons. 25% of profits benefit the Breast Cancer Alliance.

The color pink is not foreign to the cosmetic world. Beauty product brands, such as Mac, Bobbi Brown, Nars and Clinque, have expanded options of blush-hued products specifically for breast cancer. Estee Lauder has an entire line, the Pink Ribbon Collection, offers lipstick in many rosy shades.

Celebrities, too, are looking to contribute. Singer, Fergie, has added a bright pink pump, “Hope,” to her shoe line, Fergie Footwear.

This movement is not limited to women. Nike is offering cleats, football gloves and football socks in the classic pink color.

The NFL campaign, “A Crucial Catch,” works in association with the American Cancer Society focuses on the importance of women to get annual screenings. Throughout October, you will see players, coaches and referees sporting pink. Even the fields will feature the classic pink ribbon. All apparel worn and special pink balls will be auctioned off to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Breast Cancer is a disease that has touched many families. With the help of many prominent fashion companies, we are reminded to “Think Pink” and fight on for an important cause.
