First Michele Bachmann, now Rick Perry. Republican presidential candidates might want to brush up on their American history before opening up their mouths about the Revolutionary War. The latest gaffe occurred following Tuesday night's debate, while Perry spoke to a fraternity at Dartmouth.

More from NBC News:

The Texas governor was comparatively energetic at his stop at the Beta Theta Pi fraternity on the Dartmouth College campus, taking questions on energy policy, Social Security, and states rights.

But he stumbled in his answer to a young woman's question about states' rights.

Said Perry: “One of the reasons we fought the revolution in the 16th century was to get away from that kind of onerous crown."

Only problem: the Revoluationary War was actually fought two centuries later, in the 18th century.

Perry isn't the first Republican Presidential candidate to mess up on the history of the Revolutionary War, however. Michele Bachmann did as well. The Minnesota Congresswoman told supporters in New Hampshire earlier this year, "You're the state where the shot was heard around the world in Lexington and Concord."

In fact, the first shots of the Revolutionary War were actually fired in Concord, Massachusetts.
