The liars are back! But just for a tantalizing one-night Halloween special. The ultimate television tease, Wednesday night’s episode of ABC Family's "Pretty Little Liars" promises to hint at the origin of the infamous “A” to tide fans over until season two picks back up in January.

A prequel to season one, the special features the girls at a Halloween party circa 2008. That means queen bee Alison DiLaurentis is in the mix, but she won’t be appearing in Emily’s dreams or as a haunting apparition to the other girls. Fans will actually get to see Alison alive for the first time since the pilot. The infamous catalyst of Rosewood drama will be stirring up trouble as usual, particularly when she crosses paths with Jenna Marshall for the first time. Something to look forward to: Jenna has her eyesight in this episode! Appropriately named “The First Secret,” the special promises to divulge Ali’s involvement with “A” before her death. In the special preview, a flustered Ali says, “He brought me here to kill me…”. How’s that for a teaser.

ABC says Wednesday night we will finally get to “see how A’s deadly little game began.” The prequel will undoubtedly shed light upon some mysteries, but if it’s true to "Pretty Little Liars" form, more bizarre plot elements will be introduced.

"Pretty Little Liars" fans are no strangers to twists and turns in the “A” plotline. Now halfway through the second season, the writers have nearly exhausted the mystery, begging the question: when will “A”’s identity be revealed. Even more hotly debated, when “A” is out in the open, what story will be left to tell. At the beginning of season two, executive producer Oliver Goldstick told The Hollywood Reporter that ideally, the show will end when “A” is discovered. Goldstick said, “Maybe some series aren’t meant to go beyond four seasons… this could be a four season show…some things can live on for 12 seasons, some things are really meant to be delicious for three, four, five seasons.”

Wednesday night, fans will get more insight into the future of Pretty Little Liars. Perhaps the “he” Alison claims is trying to kill her will provide hints as to the identity of “A.” Keeping with the Halloween motif, the show will probably be even spookier than usual, if that’s possible.
